Mike finished a hard day at work doing inventory and helping customers, he was looking forward to a quiet day at the house relaxing. After checking to see no one was left in the store, he turned the key on the cash register locking the drawer and setting an alarm. He grabbed his coat and keys and walked to the front door and pulled it open and stepped outside. Seeing no one walking near the building in the direction he turned around, he faced the door to started to lock it so he could head home.

.x. .x. Rachel Jane Stryker Madness is a Nuisance, and No One is Immune Your Sister, Mum or Daughter may Become a Raving Loon
Rachel had thought things were perfect... For that split second she'd believed everything would go back to normal. But then... She had a sister. It was odd. Rachel had never known. All her life, she'd been an only child, but there was someone else in her family... And it didn't put her in a good mood. The girl sat on a rooftop, sifting through the scents apathetically. Her legs were pulled to her chest, and her head rested on her knee. Her eyes were closed in the early night. The girl sighed. Most shops had already closed by now, but there were a few who'd been having abnormal trading today and had stayed open. Rachel didn't really care; she'd be gone soon. She'd skip town, hide her tracks, assume a different identity. She wouldn't be... Wouldn't be... She didn't even know who she was. Rachel Stryker? No... Not even that anymore. She just didn't know.
The sound of a key turning in a lock distracted her. The girl's eyes snapped open, though sight aided her in no way. She could smell. She already knew who it was. And he was just another person who knew more about her than she did about herself.
Rachel dropped silently from the roof, landing behind him. In the dark her movements were invisible, in her dark clothing with pitch black hair hanging around her face. It wasn't one of those oh-so-dramatic moments where she'd just say something to scare the crap out of him and he'd run away screaming. Nope, been there, done that. Rachel had honestly had enough fun scaring the crap out of people like that. So she just stood there, staring up at the back of his neck. There were the... Inevitable vampire thoughts. How easy it would be to kill him. But it seemed so much more serious now, and Rachel was scared of even having that thought. It wasn't just a laughing matter. And so she just stood there, staring at him. Being short never really gave her much of an advantage.

After Mike locked the door, he felt a whisper of the wind behind him, and the crunch of gravel. He didn't think anything of it at that moment. Mike turned to go to his car, when his periphial vision caught a black haired girl in his sights. He turned around to acknowledge her presence and suddenly realized it was the first girl from the coffee shop. Mike was a little nervous because of how he was treated in the coffee shop, but he wasn't scared. He was very curious as to why this girl would choose to encounter him in the street after what happened in the coffee shop.
Mike took a closer look at the girl. He thought he remembered that her name was Raechel. she had nice flowing black hair and a very attractive pale face, He did remind him of the Cullens. He big blue eyes just stared at him, he sighed, he wasn't interested in the stare game anymore. He realized that she looked to be younger then him, not that he was interested anymore in a relationship. Mike decided it was best to be polite and find out what the girl had to say, and see where things go from there.
Mike smiled encouragingly at the girl hoping to break the ice. "Hi, my name is Mike Newton, nice to meet you" Ordinarilly Mike would have offered to shake hands, but he chose to let the girl make any first moves, and Mike remembered what Mina had told him about how this girl bruised her jawbone. He knew this girl to be quick and highly unpredictable in her actions, but Mike would at least give her a chance to be a friend, or at least have her say.

Ugh! This wasn't normal! He was supposed to scream, run, and scream again! He wasn't just supposed to keep staring at the crazy girl behind him who could quite possibly - and quite likely - be anything but human. Heck, she could even be a ghost, and he wouldn't seem to notice the difference. But she knew at least that Mina wouldn't think she was a ghost, after the good hold Rachel had gotten on the crazy girl's jaw.
And that's what she assumed of Mike, too: That he was crazy. Crazy for not reacting in the way any sane, reasonable person would. And what did she care about his name, anyway? If she got really bored she could frame him for something horrible, or even have him considered crazy, but Rachel wasn't quite at that point yet. She didn't really care enough right now. That's what happens when you've the attention span of a stray puppy dog and the temper of a great white.
Rachel wore a slightly bored and somewhat annoyed expression; she wasn't sure why she'd even bothered to stop. But now she had, so might as well make some good of it.
"You know, a normal person would scream about now," she speculated, tilting her head slightly. "What makes you think you're so safe around me?"

Mike was surprised to see an annoyed expression on Rachel's face. Although he checked the sidewalk and street to see if anyone was in the area and she had still approached without him noticing. Although Mike had lived in Forks for most of his adult life, he was naive to the life that seemed normal to Rachel. Rachel's statement seemed to be warning that Mike better "get up to speed" fast and that things were not always what they seemed. Mike took a closer look at the person in front of him. She didn't appear to be stronger or more athletic than him, but he knew from his martial arts and wrestling that looks could be deceiving. Mina's encounter with Rachel advised him that she was volatile and highly unpredictable. That was a concern that Mike needed to be worried about.
Mike thought about how he should respond to Rachel's challenge. He didn't want to make her mad by showing that he didn't respect her challenge but at the moment he didn't see any danger in talking to her. "I don't know whether it is safe to be around you after what you did to Mina, but given your volatility, I find it inadvisable to turn my back on you." Mike was nervous now, uncertain at what he got himself into. Mike took a step back, and took a "ready" position as if he was on the wrestling mat. Mike hoped that Rachel would understand and not take his actions as a challenge.

Well he got the don't-turn-your-back-on-me thing damn right, but Rachel was still wondering what was up with this guy. He just. Didn't. Get it. Either that or she was losing her touch, and with what she'd just found out, losing her touch was not going to happen. No sir-ee. And seriously, a boxing stance? What was he gonna do, fight her?
Rachel sighed, her facial expressions becoming less vacant, as if she'd apparently decided to pay more attention to the world. She threw her arms up in annoyance.
"Okay, I'm new to this, but... Aren't you supposed to scream? Or something like that... Apparently that's what you humans do. I'm a vampire, dammit!"
Fortunately, there was nothing to prove Rachel had been here. A boot-mark in the mud could easily be erased; she dropped very little DNA and certainly not enough to trace her by. If she liked, she could erase this night completely from everything but memories, and the average human memory wasn't exactly all the most... Uncorruptable.
"I don't get you; you want to have a punch-up with me? Really? Maybe I should have you committed..."
The last part was more to herself as she pondered her earlier idea. People like Mike were a threat to vampires, and if he ended up getting too inquisitive, shit would happen. It wasn't as if she could just kill him or anything.

Rachel became very animated and threw up her hands, Mike was prepared for anything. But she matter of factly announced that she was a honest to goodness vampire. Mike suddenly lost his stance and began to back away from her. This wasn't the normal predator prey relationship that he remembered, and he didn't want to play the mouse to Rachel's cat. He hoped that if he was to die that it would happen fast. He didn't scream and run, mostly because he was in too much shock at what Rachel had just revealed to him, and what good would it do, she was faster, and stronger than he was, He noticed a wood stake in the alley, and didn't even consider picking it up, this wasn't London or Romania, Rachel wasn't sleeping in a coffin, but was very much awake and aware that Mike was around. Probably the old legends didn't apply anyway, he was dealing with the real thing, his nightmares would come if he survived the encounter.
As he turned and walked away, he wondered why Rachel even told him her secret, it had to be a secret, all she had to do was leave town and Mike wouldn't have even thought twice about it. Was she telling him so he wouldn't accidentally walk into the clutches of another vampire, to be careful, could there be more vampires. He thought about his first impression of Rachel, how much she reminded him of the Cullens and how they interacted with their classmates. A light bulb clicked on in his mind and the strange happenings of his junior and senior year suddenly made sense, Edward's rescue of Bella on that fateful day. No one from his class had been fed on to his knowledge by the Cullens, so some vampires weren't the monsters of legend. Mike softly whispered "Cullens" under his breath, just barely audible to himself and slowly walked to his car hoping that Rachel would be merciful and let him go.
